What is in the water in Manila that causes it to be a little funky?

From my previous question, I have ascertained the water in Manila is soft. What is in the water that shouldn't be? I am specifically talking about the city line, not deep well. We have water that (at times) smells like a sewer and leaves water stains very easily. I am trying to get better quality water, however I am not concerned with making it potable. I will cotinue to buy drinking water.

  1. too much suka and not enough toyo!
  2. Sir, you should only drink bottled water since the water in the main lines that run through the main Manila pump station show a PH level of 8.2 which is very corrosive and a Calcium Hardness of 120 Parts per Million which is 40 p.p.m higher than the recomended dosage, Thankyou-B.P. :)
  3. The stains are iron deposits from rusting galvanized iron pipes. The smells could be a combination of all kinds of unpleasant substances diluted in the water, such as decaying organic matter (natural and acceptable). However, there are significant amounts of very harmful elements also. These include petroleum (motor oil and gasoline residue from stormwater runoff), pesticides and synthetic fertilizer runoff from farms, plus the usual heavy metals such as chromium, lead and mercury (from indiscriminate dumping). That's just the KNOWN substances. There may be other insidious ingredient in there that a typical water quality test won't detect. Don't drink it.
  4. you can't have a better quality of water unless you own a water refilling station. the pipes have gotten rusty and the sewerage system has not been cleaned for a long time.that's for sure.
  5. Poo.
  6. if the water is a little funky must have funk in it
